Jason is our new assistant gardener.
A former hairdresser, he only began a career in horticulture 6 years ago, but his CV is very impressive.
Starting at Sussex Prairie Gardens, he moved on to a diploma course at RHS Wisley where he graduated as the top student, then followed with spells at Kew and Firle Place.
Brighton born and bred, Jason lives in Kemp Town with his long-term partner and dog.
“I’ve loved gardening ever since I can remember,” he says.
“At Wisley, you eat, sleep and breathe gardening. I’ve known about the Enclosures since I was a small boy but I have only been inside once, many years ago, and so it’s great to get to know it better now. Everyone has been very nice and friendly and the NGS Open Day in my second week was a real baptism of fire.”
Jason is hard to miss, if for no other reason than the spectacular tattoos covering much of his body. He started acquiring tattoos when he was 18, more than 30 years ago, long before they became as fashionable as it is today.
“People often ask me how many I have got and I always say just one, because they all flow into one another.”
