December was a short month due to the holidays. It was also very wet and windy and therefore challenging to get things done.
We didn’t manage to have a bonfire, but we did get some more hedges cut. The Southern Boundary hedge was cut and this included reducing some sections which were getting too close to the railings; in this way we are slowly creating a straighter more even hedge.
Most of the autumn leaves, especially on the paths, were cleared up.
The new Cabin was painted on the outside and the floor varnished. It is now ready for fitting out, which will hopefully be happening soon.
The plant order arrived and while we did manage to plant some of them, most of them still need to be planted out.
In January we will continue cutting hedges including reducing the hedge above the wall in the Secret Garden. The reason to do this is give as much light as possible to the new hedge behind so that it can get as green and thick as possible before any work happens on the flint wall.
We will also do some low level pruning and tree work.
We will start to tidy up borders ready for Spring, especially where the bulbs are starting to appear through the soil.
Hopefully the weather will be a bit better and we will be able to have a bonfire.
